A Guide To Poker Tells: Reading The Competition

Being able to read your opponent is crucial in poker. It is what differentiates a game of skill such as poker from other games of chance such as roulette. Everybody has poker tells at the table and the more you observe, the better you will be able to read what a player is thinking and what cards they hold. Poker tells include any source of information that you can gather from an opponent including physical movement, changing and patterns of talking as well as how they move the chips around the table.

Eyes The eyes are an important part of reading a player. How an opponent sees the world can often give off small clues to their intentions. Length of staring at the holes cards can give you a clue. Some people can’t help but stare at monsters, others snap them back down immediately. A useful tell is when somebody immediately looks at their chips when the flop comes down, this means a big hand. The reverse is often also true, if someone stares at the flop for longer than normal then it is likely that they missed.

Hole Cards When someone rechecks their hole cards on a flop that is all of one suit, they normally do not have a flush. If a player squeezes out the second hole card after seeing the first one, it often means at least one ace. An opponent who looks at their hole cards and then looks uninterested has a monster hand.

Patterns in Betting In poker, one thing that is often true is that strong means weak and weak means strong. Any player that forcefully shove chips into the middle looking aggressive is on a bluff. The reverse is also true.

Chip Stacks If you ever notice a player winning a large pot and stacking their chips from the last hand, they will not play the hand unless they have good cards. Tight conservative players keep neat stacks and loose aggressive players usually have unkempt stacks.

Voice Any time you hear a poker player ask the dealer for clarification, it usually means they have a monster. Any questions posed like “How much is it to me?”, or “What’s the bet?” is normally indicative of a strong hand. When a player is rude to you right after a bet, it almost always means that they have a strong hand and are intuitively trying to annoy you into call. The opposite of the above tell, any time a person seems nice or polite to you right after a bet, they are probably bluffing.

The more you observe at the table, the more tells you can pick up and the better player you will become.

Holdem Poker – How To Win Cash Games

At any time you’re playing poker, you want to bring all you got to the poker table, especially when playing cash games. Cash games are a high speed adrenaline rush every single hand. Unlike a cautious tournament, you can win some major money in the blink of an eye.

The way to play No-Limit Hold’em cash games at a full table is to constantly have patience and do not play stupid. Playing cash games at a 9 seater is all about patience. You need to wait before throwing your money into the pot, especially when it’s REAL money. If you are a texas holdem play money player and have currently switched over to playing texas holdem poker online cash games, you will be in for a harsh surprise. People play nothing like play money games, in real money games. The only way to truly get a feel of texas holdem is to play for real money. When you play for real money it doesn’t always have to be for such high stakes, you can start off at the low stakes level (.05/.10 blinds) and still learn poker well. The best pre-flop hands possible are AA, KK, QQ, A-K and should not be played lightly. These are your money making hands which you will be making an absolute killing on.

Whether it is the world series of poker or the world poker tour or even just a .05/.10 cash game, you should play exactly the same every time and not slack off. Just because you feel the stakes aren’t as high as you would like them to be, you need to take everything seriously especially if you want to be a professional poker player. If you possess discipline and are a very patient player, you should have no problem making some great money online.

Now when you play at a full-table, the only hands of merit worth raising are the peak four pre-flop hands. These hands are AA, KK, AK, and QQ. Again, these are your money making hands and they will pay off especially if you hit trips with them. Hitting a poker set is the deadliest thing possible in a cash game. NO ONE can see it on the board and it can earn you a pretty penny or cost you a large amount of agony and money. I have been playing cash games for an extremely long time, 20 years to be exact and the largest pot I ever won was with a poker set. Let me BRIEFLY share with you. I had Pocket 3′s, another guy had Pocket AA’s, and another guy had Pocket KK’s. Let’s just say the flop came 3, J, 8. You know what happened next? I ended up winning over $15,000 in a single hand. Dang it felt good. You know what I ended up doing? Let’s say a whole lot of partying the next day. It’s a great feeling winning this amount of money and watching all your hard work finally pay off. I wish you the best of luck at the poker tables!
